July 11, 2015: Announcement of Janis Crumb Award

Giving tribute to our 5th year anniversary, FYMO is honored to announce the Janis Crumb Award. This award will be granted to qualified beneficiaries of our “Giving to Live” 5K Cancer Run/Walk, residing in the Greater Bay Area and Greater Sacramento Area.

Janis Crumb has been a committed supporter and top fundraiser for FYMO since the inception of our Annual “Giving to Live” 5K Cancer Run/Walk in 2010. We appreciate her dedication to keeping our mission alive. The recipients of this award are made possible mainly due to Janis’s strong will to help others who struggle tenaciously, to overcome cancer. She remains cancer free and empathizes with patients currently fighting this disease.

Congratulations Janis and Thank you!

November 13, 2013: Fashion Your Mind Organization To Host Event For Car Giveaway To Cancer Patient

Fashion Your Mind Organization (FYMO) a Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) Corporation, held a car giveaway to assist a family that has a patient currently living with cancer. FYMO’s annual “Giving to Live” 5k event in July 2013 raised over $6,000. These funds made the car donation possible and will provide much needed transportation to and from the cancer patient’s medical treatments. The presentation of the car to this family happened at the FYMO headquarters on November 6, 2013 in San Jose, CA
The cancer patient is a nine-year-old girl named Mariela who is diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of childhood cancer. Mariela must travel over 100 miles 2-3 times a week for various medical services. Mariela’s cancer treatment is profoundly difficult for Mariela’s mother, who is burdened with the loss of work, numerous bills, and extensive car problems. The single mother also cares for Mariela’s two younger siblings who have special education needs. Mariela’s caseworker from Lucile Packard Hospital explains Mariela’s illness also has a great impact on her youngest sibling who is only three years old.
Having a functional, reliable car will give the family one less worry during this difficult time. FYMO founder Tiffany Mays knows this donation will mean a great deal to the family, “As founder of FYMO I am truly humbled and excited to honor this family with a gift of this magnitude. Meeting a crucial need for this family will release just some of the burden they face on a daily basis. I am proud of my FYMO family for making this possible.”
Upon receiving the car, Mariela’s mother, Patricia Gutierrez, expressed her gratitude; “Our family travels a long path daily, both physically and emotionally, for Mariela’s cancer treatments. Mariela, along with her siblings, five-year-old Sebastian, and three-year-old Monserrat, has shown great strength through this difficult time. This car donation from FYMO will ensure that Mariela gets to all of her treatments, which are painful at times but necessary for her to get healthy. We are eternally grateful to FYMO for giving Mariela hope for continuing forward.”
This is the first car donation that FYMO has made for a cancer family in need. The organization hopes to do more impact contributions of this nature in the near future.
